Love wine and need an excuse to drink it? Did you know that different wines are celebrated on different days like your birthday. Take a look at the following wine celebration days. You may find a new wine that you can add to your shopping list! 

National Furmint Day is February 1
Furmint is the main grape of the famous Hungarian dessert wine Tokaj.  

Wine Lover’s Day is February 14
February 14th is Valentine’s Day but it’s also Wine Lovers day! Over 25,000 wine lovers celebrate the anniversary of their community. February 14th, is the name day of Saint Tryfon, the patron saint of winemakers and vineyards.

International Syrah Day is February 16
This full-bodied, spicy grape will warm you up in the middle of winter. International Syrah Day is always celebrated on February 16th.

Global Drink Wine Day is February 18
Global Drink Wine Day is always on February 18th. How about trying a wine you’ve never had before. 

Open That Bottle Night is February 27
Open That Bottle Night was created to encourage people to open up that bottle that has been hidden for a special occasion. This holiday was started by the Wall Street Journal in 2000. It’s always celebrated on the last Saturday of February. 

Mulled Wine Day is March 3, 2021
Whether you call it mulled wine, glühwein, vin chaud, vino caliente, or glögg, you should be celebrating Mulled Wine Day. Mulled wine is essentially red wine served with fruit and spices. 

Riesling Day is March 13
Riesling Day is a celebration of Riesling’s birthday. Riesling is turning 587 years old in 2022.This white grape hails from Germany but is planted throughout the world. 

Tannat Day is April 14
Tannat is a bold red wine originally from France and famous for the tannic wines of Madiran. However, it’s Uruguay that has really made it is famous. Tannat Day commemorates the Father of Tannat in Uruguay, Pasqual Harriague. He was the first to plant Tannat in El Salto, Uruguay in 1870. Now it’s the most widely planted grape in this South American country. April 14, 1894 marks the passing of Pasqual Harriague and Tannat Day honours his legacy on this day.

World Malbec Day is April 17
Malbec is native to France, but it is Argentina that made this grape famous to a whole new generation. Malbec is a red grape that makes bold wines. 

International Cava Day is April 23
Cava is sparkling wine made in Catalonia, Spain. Cava is made in the traditional method of sparkling wine from the grapes Macabeo, Xarel-lo, and Parellada. April 23rd is San Jordi day in Spain, a day with much tradition. 

World Marselan Day is April 27
Marselan is a cross between Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache.  World Marselan Day is celebrated on April 27th every year to honor the creator of Marselan, Paul Truel who was born on April 27, 1924. Though created in France, Marselan has found its home in South America and is planted throughout the continent particularly Brazil. 

International Viognier Day is April 30
2021 is the first year that International Viognier Day was celebrated. It was started by Australia’s own famous wine producer, Yalumba. It’s spiritual home is the northern Rhone Valley in France but gorgeous expression are made in California and Australia

International Sauvignon Blanc Day is May 7
Sauvignon Blanc is the go to choice if you do not know the wine in the wine list at restaurants because it’s hard to mess it up. 

World Moscato Day is May 9
Moscato has made its name as a sweet wine. Did you know there is also Dry Moscato?

International Chardonnay Day is May 27
Chardonnay is the most famous white grape in the world. Chardonnay is the grape in white Burgundy and one of the grapes in Champagne. 

International Sommelier Day is June 3
On June 3, 1969 the Association de la Sommellerie Internationale was founded in the Champagne region of France. Since wine holidays became a thing, International Sommelier Day is celebrated on June 3rd to commemorate that day over 50 years ago. A sommelier is a wine steward whose focus is on service and all aspects of wine within a restaurant. Some parts about being a sommelier are glamorized, but most of the time sommeliers are doing inventory, training staff, and updating wine lists. It’s an honourable profession that has evolved from stuffy butler-types to people from all upbringings and parts of the world.

National Bubbly Day is June 5
June starts off on the right foot with bubbles! 

World Verdejo Day is June 11
World Verdejo Day is celebrated on the second Friday of June every year. Verdejo is a white grape found dominantly in the Rueda region of Spain. Spanish white wines of Verdejo are bright and crisp with citrus and melon characteristics. 

National Rosé Day is June 12
Rosé is a great backyard sipper or even better with grilling chicken and veggies. 

Drink Chenin Blanc Day is June 19
Shuck some oysters and celebrate Drink Chenin Blanc Day. 

World Lambrusco Day is June 21
Lambrusco is fighting back from it’s bad reputation by creating a day for everyone to get reacquainted with quality bottle of this red bubbly. 

World Albarino Day is August 1
Albariño is a crisp white wine mainly planted in Rias Biaxas. It’s pretty delicious and goes with lots of food. 

International Prosecco Day is August 13
Prosecco Day celebrates the famous sparkling wine from Italy. Prosecco is a staple on every brunch table. 

International Pinot Noir Day is August 18
One of Australia’s most exported wines.

Cap Classique Day is September 1
Cap Classique is a sparkling wine from South Africa. In 2019, the Cap Classique Association started this wine holiday. 2021 is a particularly special year for Cap Classique Day as they are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first bottle fermented South African sparkling wine released in 1971. 

Cabernet Day is September 2 
Cabernet Sauvignon is the most widely planted red grape on the planet. There are so many values found throughout the world. Try one from Chile, Australia, or South Africa. 

National Chianti Day is September 3
Chianti is made in the Tuscany region of Italy. It is mainly made of the grape variety Sangiovese.

International Grenache Day is September 17
Grenache is such a fantastic grape. It’s best when blended with Syrah and Mourvedre in Rhone-style blends. You can find single varietal Grenache wines from parts of California, Garnacha in Spain, and even in Crete! Grenache Day is always the third Friday in September.

World Vranec Day is October 5
Here’s an excellent opportunity to get acquainted with an emerging wine region. Though North Macedonia and Montenegro have been producing wines since it was ruled by Ancient Greece, the turmoil of the area has kept these worthy wines from the limelight. Vranec, or Vranac, makes a super delicious red wine.

Orange Wine Day is October 6
Orange wine may seem trendy and new but orange wine has been around as long as wine has. It refers to the amber colour that occurs when you make white wine like red wine. Usually, the skins of white grapes are removed from the juice very early in the wine making process. 

International Pinotage Day is October 9
Pinotage is a red grape that is famous in South Africa but rarely grown elsewhere. It’s a crossed variety. It is a combination of Pinot Noir and Cinsault. 

Prokupac Day is October 14
Prokupac is the main grape of Serbia that has been around for centuries! Wine lovers in Serbia host events all week long to honour Prokupac and bring awareness to their prized grape. 

World Champagne Day is October 16
Champagne is a single appellation d'origine contrôlée. As a general rule, grapes used must be the white Chardonnay, or the dark-skinned "red wine grapes".

International Xinomavro Day is November 1
Xinomavro is the main grape of northern Greece. While it has been compared to Nebbiolo or even Pinot Noir, Xinomavro is really a wonder on it’s own. Winemakers in northern Greece bound together to start International Xinomavro Day to bring attention to this noble grape. It is always celebrated on November 1st.

International Merlot Day is November 7
Even though Merlot is one of the greatest grapes in the world, it never seems to get its dues. On International Merlot Day, be sure to honour Merlot for playing a supporting role in the best wines in the world without grand-standing like its brother, Cab Sauv. International Merlot Day is always celebrated on November 7th.

International Tempranillo Day is November 11
International Tempranillo Day celebrates the best grape of Spain and Portugal. Though, you’ll find it by dozens of other names in the Iberian peninsula, Tempranillo best describes this early ripening red grape. 

Wine Tourism Day is November 12
Wine Tourism Day is a the perfect day to visit a winery. Many wineries around the world have “open doors” meaning that even if they don’t have a dedicated tasting room, they open up their cellar doors and invite wine lovers in. Wine Tourism Day is always celebrated on November 12th. 

Beaujolais Nouveau Day is November 18 
“Le Beaujolais Nouveau est arrivé!” Beaujolais Nouveau Day might be the original wine holiday. Beaujolais Nouveau Day celebrates the release of the first wine from the vintage. There’s a mad dash to get all the wines to the market on the same day all around the globe. Beaujolais Nouveau is always the third Thursday of November.

World Carmenere Day is November 24
The holiday started to mark the anniversary of the recognition of Carmenere in Chile. 

International Maratheftiko Day is December 1, 2021
Maratheftiko is red grape from the island of Cyprus. It is also known as Vamvakada, Vamvakina, Pampakia, Mavrosportiko and Aloupostafylo. It’s an ancient grape that’s quite quirky. Try it on it’s first official wine date this year. Celebrate International Maratheftiko.  

Cabernet Franc Day is December 4
Cabernet Franc is the proud poppa of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Carmenere, yet few people have heard of it. Discover this underrated grape on Cabernet Franc Day, celebrated every year on December 4th. 

World Aszú Day is December 10
It is the most prized wine of Hungary. Aszú is made from Furmint grapes that have been infected with botrytis, or noble rot.This naturally sweetens the grapes and makes these outstanding wines. 

Sangria Day is December 20 
It is an easy to make cocktail with endless variations. You can make traditional red wine sangria, white wine sangria, or even sparkling sangria!

Antone joined the Kennards Self Storage in 2012 as a Team Support Manager. Progressing to the roles of NSW Rostering Co-ordinator and Waterloo Centre manager led to the position of NSW Operations Manager in 2019. Antone has gained leadership skills at previous roles as a Manager at KFC and Decorug and did run his own business a Deli / Fruit shop called Naremburn Natural. He loves that we are the people that care and how that is achieved through procedures that enable our teams to offer great customer service. He is invested in improving himself and the team around him and believes that doing what you love is the key. Outside work Antone loves travelling overseas as much as getting on the open road and you can find him watching any type of sport but especially cricket.
